Crunches, abdominal workouts, sit-ups, leg lifts, abdominal machines, etc, what ever you want to call them, most of them do not do what the fitness magazine articles claim. These articles sell magazines. Remember, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Your abdominal muscles are very similar to the majority of the muscles in the body. They are in the category of skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle for the most part, is connected to two or more bones and when contracted, moves parts of the body. Now think for a minute, how often do you see an overweight person modelling for the abdominal exercises in the magazines or on the infomercials? never. The people doing the exercises are already thin and have great muscle definition.
Learn these two lessons. First, fat does not turn into muscle and muscle does not turn into fat. Second, toning is simply the reduction of body fat and the increase in muscle mass. The result is less body fat covering larger muscles so the defintion is visible.
